How does IGCSE fit into American high school?
According to Cambridge International, it works with over 500 American schools, and US students took over 150,000 Cambridge IGCSE and AS & A Level exams in 2021. A tutor can back up those courses at home.
IGCSE, AP or IB: how do they connect?
Many US schools that offer Cambridge teach IGCSE in Grades 9 and 10, often beside AP or IB. Afterwards, students can step up to AP, IB or A-Level classes, so IGCSE acts as the foundation.
Homeschooling with an IGCSE course
Families who homeschool use IGCSE as a recognised international qualification. A tutor brings structure: a plan for each topic, homework every week, and practice on real Cambridge or Edexcel questions with their mark schemes.
Lessons that work across US time zones
A family in New York and one in Los Angeles are three hours apart. Each books slots in its own zone, before dinner or on weekends, and can move them when plans change.
Online IGCSE tutoring from Miami to the Bay Area
New York, Washington DC and Miami sit on Eastern time. Houston and Chicago run on Central, and Los Angeles and the Bay Area on Pacific. Our tutors book lessons in whichever zone your family lives in.
Cambridge IGCSE often runs in Grades 9 and 10 at US schools that also offer AP or IB. The May/June exam series lands near the close of the school year, so spring revision matters.
Planning IGCSE across Grades 9 and 10
Most students spend two years on IGCSE. Breaking that time into three phases keeps the spring before the May/June papers calm rather than rushed.
Build the base. Tutors close gaps in core topics, such as algebra for Cambridge Maths 0580 or cells for Biology 0610, before the content gets harder.
Practise full past papers under timed conditions. Your tutor marks them against the official mark scheme and shows exactly where marks slip away.
The written papers fill the weeks from late April into early June. June series grades go public in mid to late August, close to the start of a new school year.
IGCSE explained for parents used to AP and IB
Students aged 14 to 16 take IGCSE, which in the US normally spans Grades 9 and 10. Papers come from three exam boards, Oxford AQA, Cambridge and Edexcel, and each one uses its own syllabus codes.
Grading differs from board to board. Cambridge uses letters, mostly A* to G, while the other two use numbers from 9 to 1, with 9 the top grade. Besides May/June, Cambridge holds a sitting each October/November.
After IGCSE, students often move on to AP, IB or A-Level courses. A strong grade in Additional Maths 0606 or Computer Science 0478 makes those later classes feel far less steep.
Five steps to a weekly IGCSE routine
It runs the same way for homeschoolers and school students, with every time shown in your local zone.
Begin with a trialShare the grade, board and course
Tell us your child's grade, subjects and syllabus codes through the form or on WhatsApp. Add your time zone so we offer workable slots.
Get a tutor matched in 24 hours
Our team chooses a specialist for that syllabus, then lists lesson times converted to Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific time.
Test the fit in a trial
A trial lesson runs AED 20 to 60, near US$5 to US$16. No spark between student and tutor? A replacement match costs nothing.
Learn live on a shared whiteboard
Lessons mix teaching with exam-style questions and mark scheme checks. Your child keeps the recording, plus notes and flashcards, and gets homework to finish before next time.
Read a progress report each month
Parents receive brief notes after each week and a longer write-up monthly. If a lesson is missed or homework slips, you hear about it straight away.

Live tutor, group class or recorded IGCSE course?
Homeschool families often weigh live tutoring against group online classes or self-paced videos. Here the three sit side by side on attention, syllabus match, scheduling across time zones, feedback and what parents see.

IGCSE questions from homeschool and Cambridge school families
Short answers on AP and IB, homeschool use, time zones, pricing and getting started for US families.
Can homeschoolers in the US take IGCSE?
Yes. Many homeschooling families use IGCSE as a recognised international qualification. Your child studies with a tutor at home, and you book the exams with a test centre willing to take homeschool candidates.
Does IGCSE clash with AP or IB?
Not usually. Many US schools teach IGCSE in Grades 9 and 10, then AP or IB in later grades. IGCSE builds the subject base those later courses expect.
Do lessons follow our local time zone?
Yours. Families on Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time all book local slots, and you can move lessons around sports, tests or travel.
What does a US family pay per lesson?
Hourly rates begin near US$14 (AED 50), varying by subject and tutor. The trial is AED 20 to 60. Card and Apple Pay both work, and packages are optional.
Is Cambridge IGCSE Maths 0580 covered?
Yes, along with Additional Maths 0606 and Edexcel Maths A 4MA1. Your tutor confirms the exact paper your child will sit, then teaches to it.
How fast can lessons start?
Expect a tutor suggestion inside 24 hours. When the trial wraps up, regular lessons can begin at the first slot that works for you both.
