Why families choose us

How our lessons help with an essay-heavy subject

Sociology rewards clear thinking on paper. Each live lesson targets the skills that decide marks, and you can follow the progress yourself.

A 0495 specialist, fast

We look for a tutor who already teaches Cambridge 0495, including the family, education and crime options. Not happy with the pairing? A free re-match follows.

Starting with the costliest gaps

Early lessons show where marks slip: key terms, evidence or evaluation. The tutor then plans the weeks around those gaps, so revision is not spread thin before the mocks.

Research plans that score

Question 1(e) asks for a full research plan on a set topic. Your child practises picking methods, a sample and secondary evidence, and gives a reason for each choice.

Both sides of every debate

The short essays need arguments for and against, backed by studies and theories. Each one is marked as an examiner would, with notes on how to reach a judgement.

Revision material after every class

Your child keeps the lesson recording, notes, key-term flashcards and topic maps. Ideas like verstehen or life chances are easy to look up again before a test.

Timed to your family's clock

Pick slots that fit your own time zone, from weekday evenings to weekend mornings. Single lessons or a package both work. No contract ties you down.

Cambridge IGCSE Sociology 0495: what does it cover?

Cambridge IGCSE Sociology, syllabus 0495, studies how society shapes people, from family and school to crime and inequality. Students aged 14 to 16 take it in many countries. A grade from A* to C prepares them well for A-Level Sociology.

According to Cambridge Assessment International Education’s results statistics, in June 2025 7.8% of IGCSE Sociology candidates worldwide received an A*, and 73.5% earned a C or higher. Top grades tend to reward students who evaluate evidence, not just describe it.

Marks often slip in three places. Research plans skip a reason, essays argue only one side, and answers name no study or example. Your child’s tutor works on each habit with real past questions and the mark schemes that go with them.

Two papers, and how we prepare your child for each

Every candidate sits two written papers, each worth half the grade. Pearson Edexcel does not offer an International GCSE in Sociology, so lessons follow the Cambridge 0495 syllabus.

Paper 1

Research methods, identity, inequality

Question 1 on research methods is compulsory. Then your child picks identity or inequality. Your tutor practises the source questions and the research plan until each choice has a reason.

Paper 2

Family, education and crime

Your child answers two of three six-part questions. The tutor focuses on the two options their school teaches and trains timing, since both answers share the time.

Sociology questions

IGCSE Sociology lessons: what parents ask

Quick answers on exam boards, Paper 2 options, essays, research methods and fees.

Is there an Edexcel version of this course?

Not at the moment. Pearson Edexcel has no International GCSE in Sociology, so our lessons follow the Cambridge 0495 syllabus, which is examined in June and November each year.

Which Paper 2 topics will my child answer?

Paper 2 has questions on family, education and crime. Schools usually teach two, and your child answers two of the three questions. Your tutor focuses on the pair your child studies.

Why is the research plan question so hard?

Question 1(e) asks students to design a study on a topic they may never have studied. Marks come from choosing methods, sampling and secondary evidence, and giving reasons. Regular practice with feedback makes it far easier.

How do you improve evaluation in essays?

Your tutor teaches a simple pattern: make a point, back it with a study or example, then weigh it against the other side. Practice essays are marked each week, so your child sees the progress.

Does my child need to learn sociological theories?

Yes. Functionalist, Marxist and feminist views appear across family, education and crime, and positivist and interpretivist approaches shape research methods. Each theory is tied to a real example in lessons, so it sticks.

How are Sociology lessons paid for?

Fees vary by tutor, from AED 50 for an hour. Your trial costs AED 20 to 60. Pay by card or Apple Pay, per lesson or as a package. You may stop whenever you wish.
