Where do Year 11 IGCSE marks usually slip?
According to ADEK, Abu Dhabi's education regulator, 220 private schools operated across the emirate in October 2025. Many follow a British curriculum, with IGCSE exams at the end of Year 11, where technique often decides the grade.
Reading the command words
Words like describe, explain and evaluate ask for different answers. Your tutor shows how each one is marked, with real mark schemes. Edexcel Maths A, code 4MA1, is one common starting point.
Timing every paper
Plenty of students know the content but run out of time. Timed past paper sections in lessons build pace, and the tutor shows when to move on and come back later.
Showing the working
In Maths and the sciences, method marks reward clear steps even when the final answer is wrong. Lessons train your child to set out working the way examiners expect, for example in Physics 4PH1.
IGCSE lessons at home, from Al Reef to Saadiyat Island
Families in Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Reef no longer need to cross Sheikh Zayed Bridge for a good tutor. Students on Al Reem, Saadiyat and Yas Island learn from home too.
Many ADEK-regulated British curriculum schools teach Pearson Edexcel or Cambridge IGCSE. We fit lessons into weekday evenings, Friday afternoons and weekends, around school clubs and mock exams.
A Year 11 IGCSE technique plan for each term
Year 11 moves fast. Breaking the year into three parts lets your child sharpen technique gradually, instead of cramming in May.
Fix weak topics and learn the command words. Short past paper questions each week show which skills cost your child the most marks.
After the mocks, your tutor goes through the scripts with your child. Lost marks are sorted into content gaps and technique slips, and each gets its own plan.
Full timed papers now replace topic drills. With papers due from late April until early June, the last weeks centre on pace and checking answers.

How IGCSE grades are earned in Abu Dhabi schools
Students take IGCSE across Years 10 and 11, usually between ages 14 and 16. Abu Dhabi's British curriculum schools mostly enter students for Pearson Edexcel or Cambridge. Each board writes its own papers and mark schemes, so technique differs slightly.
Edexcel grades from 9 down to 1, and Cambridge mostly from A* to G. Exams take place from late April until early June, with summer results due in the middle or end of August. Cambridge also offers a November series.
Examiners reward precise answers. Our tutors teach your child to read each question, plan the answer and use the exact wording a mark scheme credits.

Your IGCSE questions from Abu Dhabi parents
Answers on exam technique, ADEK schools, lesson times on the mainland and islands, and what Year 11 tutoring costs.
Can a tutor help with Year 11 exam technique?
Yes, that is a core focus. Tutors work through command words, timing and method marks using your child's own board papers, then set homework that practises the same skills.
Do you follow the curriculum of ADEK schools?
We follow the exam board rather than a school's own scheme. Many British curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi use Edexcel or Cambridge IGCSE, so your tutor works from that exact syllabus code.
Is online tuition easier than a home tutor here?
For many families, yes. Nobody crosses the bridge, lessons start on time, and every session is recorded. Your child still gets one-to-one attention on a shared whiteboard.
What does Year 11 tutoring cost in Abu Dhabi?
Hourly lessons start at AED 50, and the rate varies with tutor and subject. One trial session is AED 20 to 60. Settle per lesson or per package, using a card or Apple Pay.
Can lessons fit around mock exams?
Yes. You can move lessons around school mocks and events. Some families add a session in the weeks before mocks, then use the review afterwards to plan the run to May.
How quickly can lessons begin before the exams?
We aim to suggest a tutor within 24 hours. After that first trial, the weekly routine can begin within days, which helps when exams are only a few months away.
