What is IGCSE Further Maths, and who takes it?
IGCSE Further Maths is a second, harder maths qualification taken alongside core Maths, usually by strong students aged 14 to 16. Cambridge calls it Additional Mathematics (0606). Pearson Edexcel calls it International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1). Both lead towards A-Level Maths.
According to Cambridge International's June 2025 grade statistics, 30.3% of Additional Mathematics candidates achieved an A*, and 87.7% achieved C or above. Those figures look generous, but most entrants are already confident mathematicians, and grades run only from A* to E.
Marks slip away when algebra is rushed. Cambridge Paper 1 bans calculators, so surds, logarithms and trigonometry must be worked by hand. Edexcel allows calculators but sets long, linked questions. Our tutors build exact written methods, so each step earns credit.

How one-to-one lessons handle the harder maths
Further Maths moves quickly through ideas many students first meet at A-Level. Here is how our lessons keep your child steady through it.
All fourteen topics, mapped to your child's gaps
Your tutor works through the 14 topics in the Cambridge 0606 syllabus, beginning with any gaps and reaching calculus before mock season. Edexcel 4PM1 students follow its 10 sections instead.
Worked solutions you can replay before every test
Every step of working stays visible on a shared whiteboard. After class, our academic team checks the recording and gives it a score, which keeps lesson quality consistent.
- Recorded lessons to replay
- Notes, flashcards and topic maps after class
- Lessons scored on 20+ measures
Know how each week went, without asking
Each week ends with brief tutor notes for you, and each month brings a detailed progress report. If your child misses a lesson or a homework deadline, an alert reaches you.
- Tutor notes each week
- A progress report each month
- Missed lesson and homework alerts
Four steps to steadier Further Maths
Name the board and code
Share whether your child sits Cambridge 0606 or Edexcel 4PM1, plus the topics that slow them down.
Get matched within a day
Inside one day, you are introduced to a tutor who already teaches that exact course and code.
Book a paid trial
One trial lesson costs AED 20 to 60, so you can judge the fit before committing.
Begin regular lessons
Weekly sessions target the weakest topics first, and you can ask for a free re-match at any point.
Two boards, four papers, one plan
Cambridge 0606 and Edexcel 4PM1 each set two papers of equal weight, with no tiers. Your school's board decides the papers, and your tutor prepares each one differently.
Paper 1, no calculator
Every step is done by hand, so your tutor drills exact values, surds and algebra until the working is quick, neat and accurate.
Paper 2, calculator allowed
Questions are longer and less guided. Your tutor teaches when to reach for the calculator and when exact working still earns the marks.
Paper 1, about 11 questions
Questions draw on any part of the specification and often combine topics. Your tutor sets mixed, timed papers so your child learns to plan each answer.
Paper 2, the same breadth
Paper 2 can test anything Paper 1 can, so revision covers all ten sections. Your tutor uses the formulae sheet in practice, just as in the exam.
How each board grades
Cambridge awards A* to E. Edexcel awards 9 to 4, with grade 3 allowed. Your tutor aims at the grade your child needs for A-Level.
Linking topics in one answer
Harder questions join calculus with algebra or trigonometry. Your tutor shows how to spot the link and set out the full method.

IGCSE Further Maths: what parents want to know
Answers on course names, exam boards, calculators and cost.
Is Further Maths the same as Additional Maths?
At IGCSE level, broadly yes. Cambridge names its course Additional Mathematics (0606), and Pearson Edexcel names its course International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1). Both are extra qualifications taken alongside core Maths, not instead of it.
Does my child still need core IGCSE Maths?
Yes. Cambridge assumes knowledge of IGCSE Mathematics (0580 or 0980), and Edexcel expects the Higher tier content of its International GCSE Mathematics. So the core course comes first or runs alongside.
Can calculators be used in the exams?
It depends on the board. Cambridge 0606 Paper 1 is non-calculator, and Paper 2 needs a scientific calculator. Edexcel 4PM1 allows a calculator in both papers and provides a formulae sheet.
Does OxfordAQA offer International GCSE Further Maths?
Not under that name. OxfordAQA's course at this level is International GCSE Additional Mathematics (9234). Our listed tutors teach Cambridge 0606, so mention your board when you enquire and we will tell you who can help.
Is it worth taking before A-Level Maths?
It introduces calculus, logarithms and harder trigonometry, which return early in A-Level. Cambridge describes 0606 as a smooth transition to AS and A Level Mathematics, and Pearson calls 4PM1 a solid basis for AS and A Level.
How are Further Maths lessons priced?
Hourly rates depend on the tutor, starting at AED 50. Your child's first session is a trial priced at AED 20 to 60. After that, choose single lessons or a bundle, and stop whenever you like.
