From Edinburgh to Bristol

One IGCSE tutor for London, Manchester and the rest of Britain

A pupil in London, Oxford or Cambridge chooses from exactly the same tutors as a pupil in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol or Edinburgh. Lessons happen on a laptop at home, so nobody crosses town for a tutor.

IGCSE and GCSE cover similar ground at the same age, but they are separate qualifications. Lessons can sit on weekday evenings or Saturday and Sunday mornings in UK time, around school sport and homework.

Independent schools and home education

Who studies IGCSE in the UK, and why?

According to the Department for Education, independent school pupils made 94% of England's international GCSE entries in 2018. Children taught at home also sit IGCSE, often without a subject teacher, so a specialist tutor fills that gap.

Support for independent school pupils

Many UK independent schools teach IGCSE in Years 10 and 11 instead of GCSE. Our tutors follow the board your school has chosen, whether that means Cambridge Physics (0625) or Edexcel Maths A (4MA1), paper by paper.

Can home-educated children take IGCSE?

Yes. Many home-educating families pick IGCSE because private candidates can enter it. With no class teacher, your child gets a tutor who plans the course, sets homework and marks it against real mark schemes.

How do private candidates book exams?

Private candidates enter through an exam centre that takes private entries. Contact centres near you well before the entry deadline. Your tutor then plans lessons back from the dates your centre confirms.

Online tutor, home tutor or IGCSE past papers alone?

Many home educators start with past papers alone, and others hire a local tutor. Here is how those choices compare with a matched online specialist on board fit, feedback, timing and the cost of starting.

IGCSE and GCSE side by side

How does IGCSE differ from the GCSE in England?

Pupils aged 14 to 16 take IGCSE, usually across Years 10 and 11. In the UK it runs alongside the GCSE as a separate option. Three boards write IGCSE papers: Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA.

Each board grades in its own way. Cambridge mostly awards A* to G. Edexcel and AQA use numbers from 9 down to 1, and 9 is the best. Cambridge runs a second series every October/November beside the summer one.

After IGCSE, pupils move on to A-Levels, the IB or other sixth form courses. A good grade in Maths 0580 or Additional Maths 0606 gives a firm base for A-Level Maths.

Private candidate timeline

Booking IGCSE exams as a private candidate

Home-educated pupils need an exam centre as well as a tutor. These three stages keep entries, teaching and revision on track for the summer series.

Find a centre

Look for an exam centre that welcomes private candidates and offers your board. Ask about fees, entry deadlines and which subjects it can host.

Confirm the syllabus

Check the exact code before entry, such as Cambridge Biology 0610 or Edexcel Chemistry 4CH1. Your tutor then teaches to that paper and no other.

Plan to results day

The main papers are sat between the end of April and the start of June. Grades follow in mid to late August; a Cambridge November sitting gives a second chance, graded in January.

Getting started

How a UK family gets IGCSE lessons under way

Here is the route from enquiry to regular lessons, whether your child attends school or learns at home.

Start with step one
1 · Today

Send us your child's board and goals

Fill in the form or drop us a WhatsApp note with the board, the syllabus codes, and whether your child is at school or entering as a private candidate.

2 · Next 24 hours

Meet a tutor picked for that syllabus

Inside a day, we put forward a specialist for that exact paper. Times are set in UK time, including Saturday and Sunday slots.

3 · Trial week

Try one lesson before committing

One paid trial, priced at AED 20 to 60 (roughly US$5 to US$16), shows whether the pairing works. If it does not, a fresh tutor is found free.

4 · Each week

Steady lessons built on past papers

Each week your child works through real questions, gets marked against the mark scheme and takes home notes, flashcards and homework.

5 · Each month

Parents stay in the loop

Short notes arrive from the tutor weekly, with a longer report each month, so you can see how things are going. Missed lessons or homework trigger an alert, and you can stop at any time.

Common questions

Questions UK parents ask about IGCSE tuition

Answers on private candidate entries, board choice, fees and lesson times for families across the UK.

Can my child sit IGCSE without attending school?

Yes. Home-educated children can enter as private candidates through a centre that accepts them. Our tutor teaches the course, and you book the exam sitting directly with the centre.

Which board suits a home-educated child?

It often depends on which boards your local exam centre offers. Many families use Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel. Our tutors teach both, plus Oxford AQA, so the choice can follow the centre.

How much does online IGCSE tuition cost?

Hourly fees begin at AED 50 (near US$14) and shift with the subject and tutor. A first trial is AED 20 to 60. Settle lesson by lesson or in a bundle, by card or Apple Pay.

Do lessons fit around UK school terms?

Yes. You set days and times in UK time and can move them around mocks, holidays and school trips. Saturday and Sunday lessons are available too.

Can a tutor help my child resit IGCSE?

Yes. Besides the summer series, Cambridge holds an October/November sitting. A tutor can rebuild weak topics over the summer break, and November grades are published in January.

Can we change tutor if it feels wrong?

Yes, just ask. A different specialist is found at no extra cost, and since there is no contract, nobody is tied to a pairing that is not working.
