Our approach

How we turn careful reading into marks on the page

Most students enjoy a good story. Writing about it against the clock is the hard part. Here is what each lesson with us brings.

A literature specialist within 24 hours

Inside 24 hours your child gets a Cambridge 0475 or Edexcel 4ET1 tutor who has read the texts their school picked. A poor fit means a free re-match.

Lessons start from the weakest skill

Early lessons look closely at a recent essay. The tutor spots what holds it back, such as planning, analysis or timing, and builds the plan around that first.

Essays marked like an exam script

Practice answers to genuine past questions are marked against the official assessment criteria. The tutor then shows what would lift each answer into the next band.

Unseen texts practised often

A poem or prose extract your child has never met can feel frightening. Regular practice with fresh texts teaches a calm routine: read, annotate, plan, then write.

Quotation flashcards and replays

Every session ends with notes and flashcards of short, useful quotations. Recordings are kept too, so a tricky scene or poem can be replayed before the exam.

Evening and weekend slots that suit you

Lessons fit your family's time zone, whether that means weekday evenings or a Saturday morning. Choose single lessons or a package, and stop whenever you need to.

About the course

What is IGCSE English Literature, and who sets it?

IGCSE English Literature teaches students aged 14 to 16 to read poetry, prose and drama and write essays on them. Cambridge calls it Literature in English 0475 and grades it A* to G. Pearson Edexcel's version, 4ET1, uses grades 9 to 1.

According to Cambridge International's grade data for the June 2025 series, 14.0% of Literature in English candidates reached A*, while 90.8% finished on a C or higher. Passing is common, so for most families the real target is the top grades.

Marks slip away when essays retell the story instead of analysing it, when quotations are long but unexplained, or when the unseen answer runs out of time. Your tutor trains each habit with timed questions and clear feedback, one to one.

14.0%

Of Cambridge Literature in English entries earned the top A* grade in June 2025.

90.8%

Of those Cambridge candidates reached grade C or higher in the same series.

Literature FAQs

IGCSE English Literature questions from parents

Quick answers on the 2028 changes, open-book exams, unseen texts, coursework and fees.

Is Cambridge Literature changing from 2028?

Yes. From 2028, everyone sits Paper 1 Poetry and Prose, then either Paper 2 Drama and Unseen or coursework, each worth 50%. Students sitting in 2027 follow the older structure, and your tutor teaches the right one.

Can my child take the book into the exam?

From 2028, both Cambridge papers are open text: a copy with highlighting and brief notes in words is allowed. Edexcel Paper 2 allows unmarked prescribed editions, while Paper 1 is closed book with the anthology poems provided.

How do you prepare students for unseen texts?

Your tutor brings a fresh poem or prose extract to practise on. Your child learns to read twice, annotate for meaning and effect, plan quickly, then write a focused commentary within the time.

How many quotations should my child learn?

There is no fixed number. Examiners reward relevant references that are explained well. Your tutor helps pick short, flexible quotations that fit many questions, and sets flashcards to keep them fresh.

Can a tutor help with coursework essays?

Yes, within the rules. Your tutor teaches the comparison skills and reading the essays need, practising on other texts. What gets handed in must come from your child's own pen, so school guidance always comes first.

What do Literature lessons cost?

Literature lessons are priced from AED 50 an hour, and the rate varies by tutor. A trial comes to AED 20 to 60. Buy one session at a time or a bundle; nothing ties you in.
