About the course

Four skills, equal weight: how IGCSE Spanish works

Spanish at IGCSE is studied as a foreign language, usually between ages 14 and 16, by students in the GCC and around the world. Cambridge offers 0530, graded A* to G, plus a 9 to 1 version, 7160. Edexcel's version is 4SP1.

Every route gives listening, reading, speaking and writing a quarter of the marks each. According to Cambridge's world totals for the June 2025 exams, 46.3% of IGCSE Spanish entries earned an A*. With top grades so common, even small slips matter.

Marks tend to vanish through tiny errors: the preterite where the imperfect belongs, a dropped accent, an adjective ending that fails to agree. Nerves also shorten spoken answers. A private tutor gives your child room to talk, be corrected and try again.

A2/B1

The level Cambridge 0530 aims for: A2, with some elements of B1 on the CEFR scale.

How we help

Lessons that build speaking confidence and written accuracy

Because every lesson is private, your child gets far more speaking time than a crowded class allows. This is how an ordinary week of lessons looks.

A tutor who knows your board

Say whether your child is entered for Cambridge 0530, the 9 to 1 version 7160 or Edexcel 4SP1. A suitable tutor is matched in 24 hours, and a poor fit is solved with a free re-match.

Speaking rehearsal, every week

The tutor plays the examiner. Role plays and topic conversations run in the real exam format, so the speaking test feels familiar rather than frightening.

Tenses that stop slipping

Early lessons show which verbs go wrong, such as preterite against imperfect or ser against estar. The plan then works on those first, well before the mocks.

Writing marked word by word

Your child writes emails, blogs and articles from past papers. Each piece is marked the way the mark scheme rewards, with endings, agreements and accents corrected.

Listening and reading under time

Timed practice with past recordings and texts teaches your child to listen for numbers, opinions and negatives, and to guess an unknown word from context.

Recordings, flashcards and your hours

Lessons are recorded, so pronunciation can be heard again, and vocabulary flashcards follow each topic. Times suit your time zone, and payment is per lesson or by package, never locked in.

Our learning platform

Replay any lesson and hear the model answer again

Each live lesson uses video and an interactive whiteboard. The recording stays available to your child, while our academic team checks and grades every session for quality.

Exam preparation

Paper by paper, from the oral to the written tasks

Cambridge gives each skill its own paper, all at one level. Edexcel combines reading and writing, so it has three. Preparation looks different for each paper.

Paper 1

Listening, heard twice

All 37 questions are multiple choice or matching, and every recording is played twice. Practice teaches your child to note numbers, opinions and negatives on the first hearing.

About 50 min · 40 marks25% · Cambridge
Paper 2

Reading for detail

Short texts test detail and opinion. Your tutor builds the syllabus vocabulary and sets timed papers. From 2028 this paper is 40 marks, all multiple choice.

Paper 3

Speaking: a role play, two talks

Ten minutes of preparation, a role play with five questions, then two topic chats of about four minutes. Your tutor acts as examiner, so your child learns to give full answers with opinions.

Paper 4

Writing in three tasks

A short form, about 80 to 90 words of directed writing, and a 130 to 140 word piece. Your tutor corrects tenses, agreement and accents in each draft.

Reading and writing paper

Five reading questions, two writing tasks, then a grammar task where bracketed words must change form. Your tutor drills verb endings for that final task.

Ways to practise

Why practise with a tutor, not only an app?

Many students use a language app or a school group class alongside their course. The table compares both with private lessons on speaking time, exam format and correction of written mistakes.

Spanish FAQs

IGCSE Spanish lessons: what parents want to know

Short answers on the speaking test, tenses, accents, the 2028 changes and cost.

What happens in the Cambridge speaking test?

Your child gets 10 minutes to prepare, then answers five role play questions and holds two conversations on set topics, around four minutes apiece. Your tutor repeats this format until it feels normal.

What does the Edexcel oral involve?

Edexcel 4SP1 has three tasks lasting 8 to 10 minutes. Your child presents a picture chosen in advance, then talks about two topics Pearson selects at random. Pearson examiners, not the school, mark the recording.

Why do accents matter in written Spanish?

One accent can change the meaning: hablo means I speak, but habló means he spoke. Edexcel assesses spelling and grammatical accuracy in writing, so your tutor checks accents in every piece of work.

Which verb tenses will my child need?

The Cambridge grammar list includes the present, preterite, imperfect, perfect, pluperfect, future and conditional, plus some uses of the subjunctive. Your tutor drills the ones your child mixes up.

Is the Cambridge course changing from 2028?

The code stays 0530. From 2028, reading and writing are each out of 40, reading turns fully multiple choice, and notes are allowed during speaking preparation time.

How do you choose my child's tutor?

Send your child's board, exam session and main worries. A suitable tutor is found within 24 hours. Lessons cost from AED 50 an hour, and requesting a free re-match is simple.
