The qualification

Cambridge IGCSE Italian 0535 and 7164, explained

Cambridge IGCSE Italian suits teenagers aged 14 to 16 and is examined each June. Schools enter students for 0535, which awards A* to G, or 7164, which uses the 9 to 1 scale. Pearson Edexcel runs no International GCSE in Italian.

There are no tiers, so everyone faces the same exam. Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing carry a quarter of the grade apiece. From June 2028, every paper is out of 40, Reading switches to multiple choice, and oral notes are permitted.

According to the grade statistics Cambridge issued for June 2025, 77.3% of entrants for Italian reached an A*. Some may use Italian at home, so beginners should not read this as an easy grade. Fluent speaking and accurate tenses still decide results.

Our approach

Turning nerves about the oral into steady answers

Many Italian students understand far more than they can say or write correctly under pressure. Lessons close that gap, one skill at a time, with a tutor who listens to every answer.

The right tutor, chosen after your enquiry

Tell us the syllabus code, exam year and where your child struggles. Within 24 hours a well-suited tutor is lined up. If the pairing misses, a free re-match brings in someone different.

Mock orals timed like the real test

Your child rehearses five-question role plays and two topic conversations, with ten minutes to prepare first. The tutor pushes for opinions, reasons and past events, which the mark scheme rewards.

Writing corrected line by line

Emails, blogs and articles of about 130 to 140 words come back marked for task, range and accuracy. Common slips, like verb endings or adjective agreement, are fixed before they become habits.

Vocabulary built topic by topic

Each lesson ends with fresh notes, flashcards and topic maps covering the words just met. Recordings let your child replay how a tricky phrase should sound, as often as they like.

Listening and reading at exam pace

Both papers are multiple choice from June 2028. The tutor practises spotting distractors, catching opinions and guessing unknown words from context, using past paper questions.

Clear updates and flexible hours

Short tutor updates land weekly, a fuller report monthly, and alerts follow any missed lesson or homework. Sessions fit your family's clock, and you settle up lesson by lesson, never tied in.

How to start

Four steps to the first Italian lesson

1

Describe the Italian worries

Share the syllabus code, the exam year and which paper, oral or written, worries your child most.

2

Receive an Italian tutor match

Inside 24 hours we propose a tutor suited to your child's level and to their Cambridge syllabus code.

3

Hear them in a trial

For AED 20 to 60, the tutor spends one lesson listening to your child speak and reading their writing.

Settle into a weekly rhythm

Regular lessons follow a plan across all four skills. Should the pairing feel wrong, a free re-match puts someone new in place.

Italian FAQs

Questions parents ask about IGCSE Italian

Straight answers on the oral, syllabus codes, heritage speakers and how we find a tutor.

How does the Italian oral work?

Your child gets ten minutes to read a role play card and make notes. The test opens with five role play prompts, followed by two conversations on set topics. The school's teacher marks it; Cambridge moderates.

Should my child sit 0535 or 7164?

The papers and topics match; only the grading differs, A* to G or 9 to 1. The school chooses the entry, and 7164 is offered in June only in some regions, including the UAE and Oman.

My child speaks Italian at home. Are lessons worthwhile?

Often, yes. Home speakers can be fluent but lose marks on spelling, accents, agreements and formal writing. A tutor targets those habits and shows how the mark scheme rewards range and accuracy.

Can my child take Italian with Edexcel?

Not at International GCSE level. Pearson Edexcel has no Italian in that range, so this page covers Cambridge 0535 and 7164 only. Check the code on your child's exam entry.

What changes in the Italian exams from 2028?

Every paper becomes 40 marks. Reading turns fully multiple choice, notes become allowed during oral preparation, and the longest writing task is worth 25 marks.

How do you find an Italian tutor?

Once you send an enquiry, we line up a fitting tutor inside 24 hours. A trial costs AED 20 to 60, regular lessons are from AED 50 per hour, and re-matching costs nothing.
